Building a Nutrition Diary for Ouders voor Inclusie VZW
In a compelling collaboration with a fellow student, I developed a cross-platform mobile application for tracking nutrition and exercise. Our goal was to create a user-friendly app for the non-profit "Ouders voor Inclusie", designed specifically for people with an intellectual disability. In this blog I am happy to share my experiences and responsibilities in this remarkable project.
The Beginning of the Journey:
Our journey started with a vision to make a difference in the lives of people with an intellectual disability. Together with my fellow student, we put our skills and passion into building an application that was not only intuitive, but also offered meaningful support in managing nutrition and exercise.
The Goal of the App:
Our main goal was to create an app that was easy to fill in for people with varying levels of ability. We wanted to offer a tool that was not only practical, but also encouraged empowerment for the users of the non-profit "Ouders voor Inclusie".
Challenges Along the Way:
Of course, there were challenges during the development process. Creating an app that was both simple and functional required precision and dedication. We constantly had to think about the user experience and make sure the app was accessible to everyone, regardless of their level of cognitive ability.

Lessons and Takeaways:
Working on this project brought countless valuable lessons with it. I learned not only technical skills in app development, but also the importance of empathy and user-centred design. It was an enriching experience that deepened my understanding of inclusive technology.
My Role in the Project:
As a team member, my responsibility was mainly focused on developing the backend of the app. This included setting up the database, designing the APIs and other technical aspects. Although my focus was primarily on the backend, I also spent some time on the front-end, albeit to a lesser extent. My work also involved making the app and the admin section dynamic, which made it easy to adjust foods and categories.
The Final Result:
After months of dedication and hard work, we were delighted to present our app to "Ouders voor Inclusie". The end result was an application that not only met the needs of people with an intellectual disability, but also had a positive impact on their daily lives. It was a satisfying conclusion to a remarkable journey.
Conclusion:
Developing a cross-platform mobile application for nutrition and exercise for "Ouders voor Inclusie" was an exciting and instructive experience. Through my role in the project I was able to improve my technical skills while contributing to a worthy cause. It was a reminder of the power of technology to promote inclusion and improve lives.
